Read how advanced counter-drone tech is tackling rogue drones in firefighting and addressing the urgent need for maritime defense solutions — in our February newsletter
Selected news, content, incidents, and information about C-UAS and the counter-drone world, from a D-Fend perspective, based on our vision of enabling a flourishing and secure drone-powered society by safely defending against rogue drone threats.
Los Angeles officials are confronting the growing threat of rogue drones interfering with wildfire response efforts, prompting a closer look at advanced counter-drone solutions to prevent future disruptions. To understand the challenges posed by unauthorized drone activity — and the technology available to mitigate these threats — Security Info Watch consulted with D-Fend Solutions, a pioneer in radio frequency (RF) cyber-based, non-kinetic counter-drone technology.
As traditional methods have proven sub-optimal to counter drone threats to their fleets, Navies now race to find viable maritime C-UAS solutions.
New-generation counter-drone technology, based on RF-cyber takeover, which has been specifically tailored, could also overcome the hurdles of countering the increasing threat posed by commercial-off-the-shelf and do-it-yourself drones in the maritime setting. The ability to detect and mitigate, with full 360° coverage, these drones across all maritime environments, whether deployed on a small vessel or scaled up for larger platforms, with a compact and ruggedized system would be an addition in a layered defense at sea.
In addition to her role in producing the company’s annual Sales Kick-Off, which you can read about here, Gili Kimel Aviav heads up all the global field marketing activities at D-Fend Solutions.
She has extensive experience in event and field marketing, specifically for companies in defense, public safety, homeland security, law enforcement and cyber security, and she is a creative problem solver with a passion for excellence.
Considering D-Fend’s involvement in events all over the world, Gili is involved in a huge number of counter-drone industry activities. And, with all the drone incidents happening in all sorts of sectors, these field marketing efforts are important to the company and its growing list of customers.

Downlink-only Capability
Because uplink communications from the remote control to the drone are quite often inaccessible to C-UAS systems in real life situations, the ability for C-UAS systems to operate in “downlink-only” scenarios, is a must-have mission-critical capability. The means to contend with this challenge is built into D-Fend Solutions’ EnforceAir system.
Unfortunately, this often-overlooked requirement can be missed during evaluations of RF cyber-C-UAS systems. When evaluating RF Cyber-Takeover Counter-UAS, it's important that system testing is valid for real-world scenarios because, in real life, the pilot and remote control are often far afield, obscured behind buildings or natural obstacles.
Contributing to industry knowledge on the topic, D-Fend recently published a quick explainer video on how to test for downlink-only capability, helping testers to evaluate the real-world performance of RF Cyber-Takeover C-UAS.
