TRADITIONAL C-SUAS SOLUTIONS ARE LESS EFFECTIVE

Radars often have trouble during the detection process differentiating between small drones and other flying objects, and they are complicated to operate. Optic solutions generate false alarms and the problem with many acoustic solutions is that drones are becoming increasingly quiet.

Jamming-based solutions, or hybrid solutions featuring jammers for mitigation, emit large amounts of energy to block drones’ controller signals and render them largely unable to function. This may not be the optimal solution for national monuments and government buildings, because jamming can affect other communications, hampering the operations among security forces and law enforcement in the area.

Many governmental organizations utilize drones for surveillance. Jamming-based solutions, however, are unable to distinguish between “friend and foe” when it comes to authorized and unauthorized drones.

Kinetic counter-drone solutions, which involve shooting down the unmanned aerial system (UAS), are also too risky in crowded situations. The projectile, falling drone, or the metal debris that is created from shooting a drone, could injure government officials, visitors or others in the area.
