Drone detection is the first pillar of any counter-drone system, fostering the tracking, identifying, and classifying of aerial threats. This is typically achieved through either one, or a combination of technologies such as radar, RF sensors, electro-optical (EO) cameras, and acoustic sensors. Each contributes different strengths depending on the environment and other conditions.
Modern approaches typically include passive RF-based detection, which can identify drone communication signals and provide accurate location data, without relying on line-of-sight (LoS).
Because each method has unique strengths and characteristics, systems may use a layered detection strategy to improve accuracy and reduce false positives across complex or sensitive environments.
